🇿🇦📡 ANC blocks Starlink in South Africa because it does not meet the South African government's race quotas: In order to acquire the licenses to operate in South Africa, Starlink needs to be at least 30% black-owned https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/488389…
🇿🇦📡 Massive surge in Starlink customers in South Africa

▫️Despite South Africa’s telecommunications regulator deeming their use “illegal”, well over 14,000 of SpaceX’s Starlink kits have been imported into the country in about a year.

▫️Starlink is not yet officially approved in South Africa but works through a global or regional roaming subscription. The kit first needs to be registered in a country where the service is officially available, which means direct shipping is not an option.

▫️Both IcasaSePush and Starsat Africa operate out of Mozambique to avoid running into legal disputes with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa), which maintains that using or providing Starlink in the country is illegal.

▫️Despite Icasa’s threats over the illegality of the service and its equipment in South Africa, Starsat said its customers were not taking down their dishes or cancelling their packages.

🇳🇱 The Dutch are taking note of Cape Independence

"Almost no potholes, fewer power outages and less poverty. Sometimes it is as if the Western Cape, the province around Cape Town, is not part of South Africa at all. The province strives for as much autonomy as possible, and some even a 'CapExit'."

👨‍🌾 People often ask if there are any agricultural activities in Orania.

The short answer is: very definitely! In Orania, among other things, the following are grown: corn, wheat, alfalfa, pecans, almonds, and olives.

Initiatives such as Bo-Karoo Training's experimental farm, together with the qualification in Farm Management that is offered, also contribute greatly to making agriculture flourish.

Although the region has a semi-arid climate with relatively low precipitation levels, Orania's location along the Orange River together with proper water management practices provides a sustainable source of water for irrigation.

🇿🇦🚢 Bad for business – government drops the maritime ball

The general volume of vessels and the sharp increase in maritime traffic around the Cape of Good Hope are both serving to underscore the notion that the Department of Transport (DoT), Treasury and the South African Revenue Service (Sars) are responsible for neglecting the local ocean trade industry.

According to Unathi Sonti, executive chairperson of the Maritime Business Chamber (MBC), about 13,000 vessels call at local ports every year, while more than twice that number sail around South Africa on east-west voyages.

Add to that the 53% increase in traffic around our shores since December due to liners avoiding the military conflict south of the Suez Canal, and the local maritime business could be booming because of the country’s strategic location.

Unfortunately, the poor planning and consistent underperformance in evidence at South African ports have, for now, put paid to any hopes of maximising the profit potential created by the current supply chain upheaval in the Red Sea.

🇮🇱🇿🇦🇺🇸 210 US lawmakers blast South Africa’s ‘defamatory’ genocide charge against Israel

WASHINGTON — Two hundred and ten Congress members have signed a letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken blasting South Africa’s case in the International Court of Justice in which it accuses Israel of perpetrating a genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

“South Africa makes grossly unfounded and defamatory charges against Israel on the world stage, abusing the judicial process in order to delegitimize the democratic State of Israel,” the lawmakers write in the letter organized by Democratic Representative Kathy Manning and Republican Representative Chris Smith.

“We vigorously denounce South Africa’s deeply hostile stance toward Israel and thoroughly reject its charge of genocide.”

🇮🇱🇿🇦 The International Court of Justice ruling:

The International Court of Justice on Friday ordered Israel to take measures to prevent and punish direct incitement of genocide in its war in Gaza and do more to help civilians, although it stopped short of ordering a ceasefire as requested by South Africa.

The judges said Israel must take all measures within its power to prevent its troops from committing genocide, and must take steps to improve the humanitarian situation.
🇳🇱/🇿🇦/🇮🇱 NEW: International Criminal Court announces provisional measures

Israel must immediately cease:

1. Killing members of the ethnic group (Palestinians).
2. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group.
3. Deliberately inflicting measures upon the group that could indirectly result in harm.
4. Preventing births from happening within the group.

The court orders Israel to report to the ICC within one month, to submit proof that it has taken the necessary action to abide by the measures as ordered by the court.

🇮🇱✈️🇿🇦 Israel's El Al suspends South Africa route over World Court case

El Al Israel Airlines said on Friday it was suspending its route to Johannesburg at the end of March, citing a steep drop in demand after South Africa accused Israel of genocide at the World Court.

Israel's flag carrier flies up to twice weekly nonstop to Johannesburg.

"Israelis don't want to fly to South Africa," said an El Al spokesperson. "They are cancelling flights and planes are pretty empty... We understand it's the situation because it was different before.
